Nolan Boggess is a theatre director and professional who is obsessed with the musical, bizarre, and temporary aspects of the performing arts. He is interested in LGBTQ+ stories, unconventional musical theatre, using theatre to create a more just world.

He currently works at 101 Productions and works on the Company Management team for APPROPRIATE. He also assists the management teams of CABARET, SUFFS, and AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.

Originally from Des Moines, IA, Nolan grew up in a household that worshipped musical theatre. When he was two, he asked for the VHS of Cats the musical for Christmas

(his taste has since changed) and never looked back. 

 

Nolan earned his BA from Grinnell College in Theatre and Dance in 2019, focusing on performance art and site-specific performance.  He worked on immersive performance for an audience of one with Riverbed Theatre in Taiwan and created a site-specific environmental prairie labyrinth with collaborators from the UK. He devised multiple productions at Grinnell and won the McClennon Clark Playwriting Award in 2018. Over four years, Nolan also created and grew a student-run musical theatre program from twenty students to over one hundred students.

Other credits include Production Assistant and Cabaret Director at Forestburgh Playhouse (New York); Seasonal Assistant Production Manager at The Public Theater (NYC); and Museum Theater Manager at Plimoth Patuxet Museums (MA).  He also is a freelance artist and a contributing critic for Theatrely.
